Air Fryer Sweet Potato Slices

Crispy and crunchy these Air Fryer Sweet Potato Slices will have you crunching your way to the very last chip! They make for a great side dish or snack! Don’t forget to pair it with our creamy Greek yogurt dip.

Sweet potatoes are a food that can be used to substitute when cooking or baking. Sweet potatoes are a favorite around here. My family mostly likes them, Air Fried.

When it comes to cooking sweet potatoes there are a number of different ways to cook them.

These air fryer sweet potato slices make the perfect snack chip. Burger and chips anyone?

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE AIR FRYER SWEET POTATO SLICES

You only need three ingredients to make air fryer sweet potato slices.

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Sea Salt
  • Black Pepper

You will also need a family-sized air fryer, 2 mixing bowls, thongs, tea towel, and paper towel.

HOW TO MAKE SWEET POTATO CHIPS CRISPY

A few things you need to REALLY keep in mind when making air fryer sweet potato chips are soaking, drying, not overcrowding your air fryer, and very thin slices. Try using a mandoline slicer to get that perfect thin slice. You almost want to be able to see through your potato.

DO I NEED TO SOAK MY SWEET POTATOES BEFORE BAKING

This is a very important step to ensuring that your air fryer sweet potato slices come out crispy. When you soak your sweet potato rounds you are removing any starches or surface starches from the potatoes. Soaking your sweet potatoes will also make them more crispy.

HOW TO COOK SWEET POTATO ROUNDS IN AIR FRYER

Once you’ve done your soaking and drying, you will want to make sure to evenly coat each sweet potato slice with olive oil, sea salt, and black pepper. Make sure you start with a temperature of 350F for the first 10 mins and then bump the temperature to 400F for 2-4 minutes.

You will also want to make sure not to overcrowd the basket of your air fryer.

WHY ARE MY SWEET POTATO CHIPS SOGGY

This is due to too much moisture or overcrowding your basket. Meaning your sweet potato slices before cooking were not dry enough. It is very important to pat the slices dry.

I find a tea towel best, followed by a quick pat with a paper towel. Using oil will also help with excess moisture as well.

Don’t forget to give your sweet potato slices room to cook.

HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER SWEET POTATO CHIPS CRISPY

This comes down to the temperature, the thickness of your sweet potato slices, and how long you baked them for.

You want to make sure that you air fry sweet potato chips at 350F for 10 mins and move the temp to 400F after you have flipped them for 2-4 mins.

Thickness for making the best air fryer sweet potato chips is making them as thin as possible.

Timing, time is also key. A total air fry time of 12-14 minutes per batch.

We love to serve our air fryer sweet potato chips with burgers, wings or have in place of fries!
