HOW TO MAKE CRISPY AIR FRYER HOME FRIES

There are a few simple steps to follow when it comes to making instant air fryer home fries. Let’s get down to business!

  • Prepare 4-5 large potatoes by rinsing, slicing (like a fry), and add to a bowl.
  • Rinse sliced potatoes X 2.
  • Add water and fill to the top, covering fries so they don’t brown.
  • Soak for up to 1 hour before cooking.
  • Drain off the water after an hour and pat the fries dry. I like to use a tea towel, toss so many in at a time and give them a good shake, and pat dry.
  • Once potatoes are dry, add to a clean bowl, toss in Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and all spices.
  • Set aside the bowl. Preheat your air fry on 400F for 2-3 minutes.
  • Spray the basket with spray oil, layer in your potatoes (DO NOT OVERLAP THEM), set temp to 380F, cook for 8 minutes, toss fries and cook for another 8 minutes.
  • Continue this until all fries are cooked, about 4 times.
  • To keep fries warm while waiting for the rest, add them to a sheet pan and set the oven on 275F.

THE BEST SPICES FOR AIR FRYER HOME FRIES

After testing this crispy air fryer home fries recipe in a few different ways, this combination of spices listed above is the best to maximize the flavour of these healthier home fries.

NOTE: if you wanted to add a little sweetness to your instant air fryer home fries, add 1 teaspoon of light brown sugar. Yes, I went there – SO good!

HOW LONG TO COOK HOME FRIES IN THE AIR FRYER

You can have home fries in as little as 16 minutes that are crispy coated, soft on the inside, and loaded with flavour. The temperature for cooking the crispy air fryer fries should be set to 380F. Once the fries have been cooking for 8 minutes, remove them, give them a toss and place them back into the air fryer for another 8 minutes.

DO YOU HAVE TO SOAK POTATOES BEFORE FRYING

After trying this recipe a few times, I highly recommend soaking them for at least an hour to soak up the starches for a more crispy fry. Make sure you also dry the potatoes off before adding in the oil. If you do not dry the potatoes off well enough they may end up soggy/wet once they’re cooked. Also, when soaking the home fries make sure that potatoes are completely submerged in the water.

HOW TO STORE AND RE-HEAT AIR FRYER FRIES

You can refrigerate leftover air fryer home fries and reheat in the microwave or air fryer. My husband will actually take these home fries as leftovers in his lunch bag to work and reheat in the microwave.

You can reheat in the microwave for 45-60 seconds, or in the air fryer at a temperature of 380F for 5 minutes.

WHY ARE MY AIR FRYER FRIES SOGGY

This could be because you are overcrowding the air fryer. You want a nice even layer so that all fries cook evenly. Also, you want to make sure that if you are soaking them, you are drying them off well to ensure that your home fries come out crispy.
