HOW TO PICK RIPE AVOCADOS

When it comes to picking the right avocado for making the tastiest guacamole you want to choose avocados that are dark, and soft but not mushy.

Take a look under the stem, if it is green, you have yourself a ripe avocado. If it is brown it is overripe.

I like to keep avocado ripe using this avocado keeper if I am not consuming it right away.

HOW TO RIPEN AN AVOCADO

There are a few different methods out there when it comes to ripening avocados quickly. Here is what I find to work best:

  • Add your avocados into a brown paper bag with a banana, close the bag up, and wait a day or two and you’ll have a ripe avocado.

STORAGE TIPS

The best way to store healthy easy homemade guacamole is by placing plastic wrap directly on the guacamole as soon as it is mixed together unless you are consuming it right away. This will help prevent oxidation. This container also works great too.

In all seriousness though, I am doubtful you’ll have any of this quick and healthy chunky guac leftover it is that GOOD!

FREEZER TIPS

You may be questioning freezing guacamole and I am here to tell you that you most certainly can freeze it.

I like to do so in muffin tins. Why? Because it freezes the perfect portion.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Line each muffin thin with wax paper {you’ll need to cut the wax paper to fit}. Fill each wax paper ¾ full with homemade chunky guacamole.
  • Once you have the amount measured out that you want to freeze, place the muffin tin in the freeze and freeze overnight or for 8 hours.
  • Remove frozen guacamole from the freezer and wrap each serving of guacamole in press-n-seal and store in a freezer-safe bag and add back into the freezer.
  • Freeze for up to 4 months to maintain freshness.

I like to freeze guacamole to have fresh guacamole on hand whenever I need it. Simply thaw to room temp for about 2 hours and you have fresh guacamole without all the fuss.
