INGREDIENT NOTES

When it comes to making a classic coleslaw recipe you will need the following ingredients:

  • Plain Greek Yogurt: using Greek yogurt is a great alternative to mayonnaise. Not only does the Greek yogurt add a tang to this mayo-free dill coleslaw it also adds some protein.
  • Apple Cider & White Vinegar: to add some tartness and of course, a little sweetness apple cider vinegar & white vinegar help balance out the flavors in this dish.
Ingredients needed to make this tangy dill coleslaw without mayo.
  • Honey: to help bring this creamy coleslaw dressing a little more sweetness we use some honey to help balance out the tart of both the vinegar and the Greek yogurt.
  • Granulated Sugar: A little granulated sugar is added here as well, to bring out more of the sweetness in this already tangy coleslaw.
  • Dill Weed: the added dill gives this homemade coleslaw a very tasty flavor!
All the ingredients for the dressing ready to be mixed together.
  • Celery Seed: adding a little celery seed helps make this simple coleslaw taste close to store-bought coleslaw.
  • Salt: salt is used to just add a little flavor. I say use a pinch and then a pinch or two more depending on your personal preference.
  • Pepper: ground black pepper adds some great spice to this tasty coleslaw.

  • Red Onion: the red onion in this recipe adds such a great crunch and zing to this already delicious coleslaw.
  • Ready-To-Go Coleslaw Mix: to keep this salad easy, we use ready-to-go bagged and prepared coleslaw mix from the grocery store.

Can you use white vinegar instead of apple cider vinegar in coleslaw?

Yes, you can use white vinegar instead of apple cider vinegar. The combination of both kinds of vinegar in this salad gives it some extra tart with some tang.

What is coleslaw made of?

Coleslaw is made of shredded cabbage, mayonnaise or plain yogurt, sugar or honey or maple syrup, apple cider or white vinegar, salt, pepper, and celery seed. For a more added flavor, you can add fresh red onion and/or fresh or dried dill, like this recipe.
